Scarlett Shih

Scarlett has more than 20 years of media agency management experience across Greater China.

Prior to joining Withinlink, Scarlett has worked at Starcom Mediavest Group (SMG) for 10 years. Her last role there was as CEO of Spark Foundry Greater China with a remit to build the brand as well as accelerate the group’s business results and implement global policy across all local businesses. During her tenure there, she turned the company into an iconic brand in China based on reputation, business growth, product development, client service and talent qualification.

Lucy Zhang

Lucy Zhang has more than 25 years of experience in marketing and media research, data analytics and consumer insights.

Prior to joining Withinlink, Lucy was Research Director of GroupM APAC, the biggest media agency worldwide. She has worked in GroupM for 17 years, starting in China to her last role at APAC.

Swee Lynn Chong

Swee Lynn Chong has over 25 years of industry experience in China and the Asia Pacific region, with a proven track record in strategic corporate communications and branding for media, consumer and retail brands.

Before joining Withinlink, Swee Lynn was Managing Director, Corporate Communications at GroupM China, where she raised the corporate profile of GroupM to one of the most reputable brands in the industry in China.

She started her career at Batey Singapore and has worked at the Hutchison Whampoa Group, Nike Asia Pacific, and the SCMP Group in Hong Kong SAR where she was head of marketing and corporate communications before moving to Shanghai.

Roger Li

Roger Li has more than 20 years’ experience in human resources, organizational design, talent management, leadership development, internal communications and change management.

Prior to joining Withinlink, Roger was Chief Human Resources Officer of Millward Brown, a global leader in brand, media and communications research and consulting, for Africa, Middle-East and the Asia-Pacific Region.

He also held senior positions at GroupM China as Chief Talent Officer and at Burson-Marsteller Asia Pacific as Regional Managing Director, Human Resources.

Bessie Lee

Bessie Lee is Founder of Withinlink, a China-based startup incubator and early-stage venture fund focused on marketing technology that supports China’s media communications industry.

With more than 30 years of experience in the media communications industry in Greater China, exclusively across a number of WPP companies, Ms. Lee draws upon an extensive network of thought leaders as well as a team of C-suite media and marketing executives, investment professionals and entrepreneurs, to offer extensive experience in business management and networks to fund and mentor startups and to create winners.

Prior to founding her own company, she was CEO of WPP China beginning in 2013, where she was responsible for 14,000 employees and more than $1 billion in annual revenue.

Ms. Lee also served as the CEO of GroupM China. During her seven-year tenure, GroupM’s media billings in the country tripled, and GroupM was named the number one media holding group in China in terms of billings for five consecutive years from 2007 to 2012, according to RECMA.

As one of the most experienced and highly respected individuals in China’s media and martech industry, Ms Lee’s professional success is reflected in the many hats she wears as a frequent media commentator, blogger and a highly sought-after international public speaker, having presented many times at Cannes Lions’ International Festival of Creativity, FT Future of Marketing, SXSW and Advertising Week. Ms. Lee was the Innovation Jury President at the Spikes Asia Awards 2017 and a member of the Jury of Innovation Lions at Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity 2018.

She has received a number of international awards for her contributions to the media industry, including the 1990 Institute’s IGNITE Award in the US (2017), China’s Business Mulan Award, from China Entrepreneur (2012); Media Person of the Year, from the Communication University of China (2010); Media Person with Major Contribution to the Industry by China Advertising (2010); China’s top 10 most creative media professionals by the China Economic Newspaper Association (2007); and China’s top business women leaders by the All-China Women’s Federation (2006).

Ms. Lee was honoured as one of the 29 most inspiring women in digital, a prestigious recognition and an important symbol for female empowerment at and by Dmexco, The Female Quotient and Refinery29 in 2017.

Ms. Lee serves as a non-executive director on the boards of five companies, namely Abcam (Nasdaq: ABCM/ London AIM:ABC), global leader in the supply of life science research tools; Electrocomponents plc (LSE: ECM), a British-based distributor of industrial and electronics products; Homeplus Digital, a cable TV multi-system and Internet provider in Taiwan, China; and Shanghai Fuge Information Technology, a China-based online market focused on media resources for the ad industry.

Ms Lee is a co-founder of the Mobile Marketing Association in China. In 2017 and 2018, she was elected co-chair to lead the association on key industry issues in a market with the highest mobile Internet population in the world.
